1/2B explored capacity in a practical way – taking our learning outside into the sunshine 🪣
Y1/2 loved using different geoboards for a shape making task 🟣🟨🔷🔴🔶
Doing this practical activity helped us to revisit our fraction learning.Read more about Shape problem solving – demonstrating turns in KS1 maths 🔴🔵 …
How many squares? Ks1 children took up an interactive challenge to practise their problem solving skills 🟦🟥🟩
Y2 children had fun and frustration making 3D shapes in today’s practical maths challenge 🔢
1/2B rocked up early for a times tables breakfast event, dressed as their avatars 🎸🤘
1/2B went bananas over puppy problem solving in our after school club 🍌
Today in 1/2B, we practised our money skills with a carousel of maths games and activities 💷
Today 1/2B had a colour scavenger hunt and a colour code challenge. Afterwards, we needed a quick conga line (to a banana song) before testing out our new 1 minute maths app 🍌🍌🍌
In Y2, the children explored how we could split a range of shapes into even and uneven parts. We added labels to practice our maths vocabulary too! 🔢
We used manipulatives and tens frames to help us when working out one less than and ten less than 🔢
We made tangram pictures of Olympic sports today, practising our fine motor skills in 1/2B 🔷🔺🟢
Today our Y1 numeracy learning was about sorting objects and preparing to count. Objects can be sorted by their shape, colour and size. We also realised that objects can be sorted by their type. We discovered that when we line our objects up, it makes counting easier.
Our new Y1 children enjoyed collecting scores in our Olympic themed activities yesterday.
What a great way to practise our number skills!
We are always going for gold🏅
The children had to think of ideas for our class Census. We had lots of great ideas, but then removed the ones that would not give us useful data. The children took a vote to choose what we would count and we went with the popular choice, games. We used a tally chart […]
This week, we have been learning all about fractions. We know that ‘whole’ means to have all of an object or shape. We also know that ‘half’ means our object/shape has been split into two equal parts. We even know that to make a quarter, we must have 1 of 4 equal parts. We have […]
We have been using geo boards to draw examples of basic 2D shapes. We then moved on to drawing shapes, using a set of instructions: Draw a large rectangle on squared paper or dotted paper. Draw a square inside the rectangle. Draw a triangle below the rectangle. Draw a pentagon that is bigger than the […]
Our challenge today was if I had 5 coins, what amount of money could I have? The children came up with a range of answers. Can you think of any that we missed?
We have enjoyed Christmas craft activity. Christmas maths has been a favourite 🎁 The cracker challenge got everyone thinking 🎅🏻
Mrs Slack is working her magic…
We looked at statements like: even + even = ? Doubling an odd number = ? 😀 Children enjoyed justifying their sometimes, always or never answers with number sentences to prove it 🤔
1/2P have been enjoying utilising the Ks1 outdoor area for learning. We have done lots of brilliant learning outside, all whilst having lots of fun! This week, we have used our area for Phonics, Literacy and Numeracy learning. For Literacy, we looked at word classes and concentrated on nouns. We thought about what we could […]
Working on strategies to support times tables has definitely helped – with a 12/12 success story this week! Well done to Mrs Slack and her group who are working really hard 👍🏻
Today we built arrays to help us solve worded multiplication questions. We used our arrays to skip count in 2’s, 5’s, 10’s and 3’s. We also wrote our multiplication number sentences two ways to show that the numbers are commutative (can go in any order).
We work on strategies to help with our skip counting skills 😀
In 1/2P, we are starting to recognise coins and their value. We are incorporating our money knowledge with our addition and subtraction learning to work out monetary totals in word problems. Well done girls and boys, you did so well with your learning this week and we are so proud.
Children in 1/2P have been using the outdoor learning area to take part in some fun away-from-the-desk Numeracy learning! Our outdoor area is being developed this year and we can’t wait to see the end product. We love going outside and being creative with our learning!
Today we went live with bar modelling 👍🏻 We used our fact families, making addition and subtraction numbest sentences. We counted in 1’s and 10’s, making numbers to 100 and did lots of work on our whiteboards as we went along. We may not be in our classroom today, but we can still show off […]
