Y5P have enjoyed their Place Value block during numeracy and produced some lovely discussions over comparing and ordering numbers up to 1 million.
Y5P enjoyed researching about the planets in our solar system. We searched for specific facts such as: distance from the sun, average temperature, diameter and distance from Earth. Next week, we will look to publish our research.

Y5P looking at dribbling yesterday in their PE lesson. Our objective was to keep our heads up, find the space and use the inside of our foot to dribble with the ball.
This week we used our water colour skills to look at waves. We looked at how different brush strokes have different effects for creating an image of a wave.
This week, we linked our knowledge of coastlines and Science to discuss life in rock pools. We researched different creatures and how they have adapted to live in a rock pool. There were some very interesting ways of keeping alive when the tide is out!
Combining our French and Geography skills, we discussed how languages travel across the world and where in the world different languages are spoken. We then researched and located countries who speak French.
Today, we have discussed what makes a good friend, listing qualities and attributes. We then ranked them in importance order but came to the conclusion that all of the qualities that we look for have the same level of importance. Today we talked about having respect for ourselves, family, friends, community and our planet. We worked together in teams and really thought about our action and what things we love about our relationships with others.
We loved our first assembly back sharing all the wonderful things that had happened that week. Our children have come back settled and love learning. It was really lovely to see our KS1 children back in the hall. Well done to all our winners and to Scholes who have taken the house challenge lead.
Yesterday, Rotherham Library Serviced helped our new Y6s understand how to run a loaning library. We just have a few finishing touches and we will be relaunching to the whole school.
We loved our maths lessons last week and rose to the challenge of making 3 digit numbers. We enjoy using base 10 to help us to understand the place value of each digit.

All of our children have received their Willow Tree Book bag which look amazing, the children have everything ready for an exciting year ahead. How wonderful do they look, we hope they take pride in their home learning and reading.
This week we have come together within assembly to explore the British Values and continue our collective worship. It is lovely having some of our children back together again. Thank you Mr Parkin for a great assembly.
Mrs Tunks always loves taking us on adventures. We explored the pond and saw lots of frogs and tadpoles. I hope we didn’t scare them off.
Our Year 3 Children are off to a flying start moving onto the next level with their Maths passports. What a wonderful achievement in your first week in the juniors.
Today our Year 4 children set off on the coach for their first swimming lesson. It was so wonderful to see their smiling faces as they set off on their journey. They have overcome their fears and taken on a new challenge.
Using our book Kensuke’s Kingdom, the children looked through the vocabulary from a page to produce their own blackout poetry. The results were fantastic and everyone made a great start to the term!
The first afternoon in 5/6H was a time for children to keep improving their art skills. We did some different sketching techniques before producing images of yachts. What a great start!
We have built on our art and poetry skills this week into published pieces. Children have explored line and texture in art and completed Blackout poetry with a descriptive page from our class text Kensuke’s Kingdom. Outstanding start to the new term by all.
Y4D are exploring their topic together, they have generated some excellent ideas.
Our Year 3/4P have been working hard to perfect their presentation using their ink pen and how they can apply this to their written learning.
Our Children in 5/6H and 6B were exploring tone within their sketch books today. You can see some of the completed sketches from 6B in their post. Well done everyone so proud of the way you have settled back in.
Today, we used our pencil sketching skills to create line drawings of sailing boats, linked to our class text Kensuke’s Kingdom. Children then quickly transferred these pencil skills into pen drawings becoming braver with their line experimentation as the afternoon went on.
Today, 5/6H and 6B used their knowledge of place value and the Olympics to complete a challenging orienteering course. This included so many skills including map reading, place value knowledge and spelling. Everyone had a great time carrying out the activity!
5/6H looked at some famous moments from the Olympics including Usain Bolt winning the 100m, Super Saturday from 2012, Derrick Redmond in Barcelona and Eric the Eel. We then discussed what makes a winner. There were some very well thought out responses. We decided that winning gold didn’t just mean you were a winner!
The last couple of weeks, 5/6H have been producing some different pieces of artwork and design technology learning. They have focused on Olympic posters for painting and Olympic kits to design. The children tried really hard with the learning they produced.
Today we celebrated our Willow Tree Oscars where some of our children were awarded an Oscar for their animation and film making skills all based on areas of the curriculum and the topic they have been learning.
