In Y1/2B, we have been practising some of our sketching skills to reveal our Olympic sporting theme. Can you guess from our work? 🔍
As part of our DT project, we designed, made and evaluated our own Olympic medals in Y1/2B. We decided our medals must have the Olympic rings and the goddess of victory, Nike. They should be shiny and durable. They could have a ribbon attached, to wear around the neck. 🏅
Our Science investigation on push and pull forces (in sports) generated the question: How much force will make a ball travel the furthest? 🎾⚽️
What an amazing morning of maths learning. We have had so much fun this morning. We have done some Olympic maths. We have made olympic medals we can eat, counted how many times we can do olympic activities, making numicon patterns and exploring all the other maths activities in the classroom.
We had a look at our countries flag, we talked about what we would like to do if we were in the Olympics and read a story and listened to some facts all about Mo Farah. We even did the Mo bot.
Our Reading Champion Mia has been out shopping today to spend her book voucher. Mia loves reading and has made lots of progress this year. We are just so proud of you.
We were very lucky today as we got to see some real Olympic medals and hold some things that have been to the Olympics all over the world.
Today we celebrated the children’s achievements in their new class. It appears everyone has had a fantastic first week and really enjoying finding new friendships, getting to know their Teacher and learning new things. Well done to all our winners and we really enjoyed our Olympics theme.

In Y1today, children moved along to a familiar song and tapped back a set of beats, using a musical instrument 🎶
In y2 this week we have been learning all about place value. We have been discussing the value of tens and ones.
Today our Y1 numeracy learning was about sorting objects and preparing to count. Objects can be sorted by their shape, colour and size. We also realised that objects can be sorted by their type. We discovered that when we line our objects up, it makes counting easier.
In KS1, we enjoyed matching 🇫🇷 vocabulary to the correct sporting activity. It was surprising to see some of the words were very similar to our English words for sports!
Our new Y1 children enjoyed collecting scores in our Olympic themed activities yesterday.

In 1M we have enjoyed learning about and the recreating some Olympic Games . The children had their own score cards to record all their times and outcomes. They really enjoyed being active and taking part.
Today we took a Year 6 and Year 5 team to compete against Greasbrough Primary school to open the Multi Sports Centre. The children were really lucky to have the Mayor of Rotherham who presented the children with medals. Congratulations everyone a wonderful afternoon had by all.

Today we held our first ever Willow Vision, competing against our four schools in a competition. All the children sang beautifully in French. Congratulations Roughwood, what a performance. We already have ideas buzzing for next year.

Our art leader Miss Stubbs has been blown away this week. She was thrilled with the amount of concentration and resilience the children are putting into sketching and using our new techniques to make our sketches more detailed. Here are the artists of 3/4P with their amazing art learning!
This week we finished our DT project by making a moving London bus. We did an amazing job! We even used equipment to cut the dowel for our own axels.
