This week in phonics we learnt 3 new phase 5 sounds. We learnt ir, aw and ue. We’ve had lots of fun practising our new sounds and we even finished the week off with tricky word bingo!
We are enjoying our online phonics sessions with Miss Stubbs and Miss Parkin. We have learnt two new phase 5 sounds ‘ea’ and ‘oy’.
We have started our new topic ‘Marvellous Mixtures’ this week with a topic launch day of experiments. We looked at an experiment using milk, food colouring and washing up liquid.
Our KS1 Children had a fabulous Christmas party, enjoying lots of games and making memories.
Congratulations 1S on winning the attendance breakfast so proud of you, I know how much you love coming to school.
Today we celebrated children who have shown resilience beyond believe this year and overcoming barriers to learning to make sure they succeed. Continuing to learn even when bubbles have closed and school had closed embracing every second of 2020. We are proud of you all.
Our Children have loved having a message from Father Christmas this year. He has been watching you all carefully and has seen what super learners you have been. I hope you all loved your presents. A special thank you to all of our children and hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your families.
Our KS1 children have produced a fabulous production of the Nativity. Thank you to all the children and staff for putting together a wonderful performance. Parents I hope you enjoyed our zoom call this morning to showcase our very special performance. We can’t wait to have you all back in school next December.
This week we have had the pleasure of joining a live zoom session with real life explorers. We learnt lots of new facts about Antarctica and what people do there. Did you know? It takes 54 hours or more to get to Antarctica 🇦🇶
Today we made Christingles and discussed what each part represented. We can’t wait to share what we learnt in our video for the christingle service.

We are really excited about celebrating Diwali through dance with Balbir Singh. Tomorrow we have our workshops with each year group bubble to celebrate the festival of light. We wanted to share with you this beautiful creative task of making your own Diwali Lamp with your children at home.

A huge thank you to Mrs Foxley Johnson for our assembly this morning, our Year 1 children kept raising their hand to say that they are going to stop bullying everywhere and were fully behind you. Thank you for always supporting Rockingham we love you.
Our Year 1 children have been blending pastels to create some stunning penguins. The children have been using a range of techniques to bring them to life. We can’t wait to share our finished outcomes, thank you Mrs Robins we love having you at Rockingham.
1S really enjoy outdoor maths, here they are using outdoor natural materials to explore place value, addition and subtraction.
Our children in 1S have really enjoyed their poppy artwork which has been beautifully displayed as part of our whole school montage.
1S really enjoyed their visit to Greasbrough Dam last week and enjoyed their local visit. The children were able to develop their Geography skills through map work and understanding local history.
Our Ks1 children and staff have done an excellent job of developing their outdoor space. Through their Nemesis project they have contacted a range of local community members to support with donations and the children have completed some incredible designs that were showcased in assembly. Today we enjoyed celebrating our achievements for our record of achievement day. It was lovely to hear all of the different ways that we are developing our skills to improve our learning and the school. We thought of ways we could develop further and wrote targets for next term.
