During P4C this week we read the text ‘Words and your Heart’ and used it to compose a class question. We discussed how words can make us feel and how we can use our words in a positive way. Here are some of our thoughts from our question.

Maths with conkers!
This week the children have been learning about weight. Some children found out what a 100g of conkers looked and felt like and some children balanced the weight of an object using conkers and then carefully counting how many conkers it took. The children worked in small teams and were really enthusiastic about their learning.

Atlas skills in 1/2WB
Our first lesson using an atlas was such fun! The children loved looking through the atlas before using it to help them locate and label continents. Some children even added oceans. The children showed great resilience during this lesson. Well done 1/2WB.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park
We had a wonderful day at Yorkshire Wildlife Park today. We saw lots of different animals and enjoyed a workshop in the afternoon where we held a giant African land snail, a hissing cockroach and a corn snake.
Drip painting
Painting in the style of Jackson Pollock. The famous artist used drip painting so we tried it this week. We chose different animals to recreate. Can you guess which ones we choose?

Adding 2 numbers in 1/2WB
Science fun!
This week we have been learning all about things which are alive, dead and never been alive. What better way to learn than visiting our pond area to see the wildlife. We saw lots of insects and even frogs! It was very exciting.
Y1S Miss Stubbs Rocking the air guitar!
Y1S are having their first singing lesson with Mrs Thompson-Smith this afternoon, they have been playing the air guitar and enjoying hearing the piano, Miss Stubbs was really getting into the groove. Excellent learning everyone.
Maths in 1S
This week in Maths we are practising our counting skills. We have counted forwards, backwards in ones, fives and tens. We are becoming counting masters!

P4C – Almost Anything
We read the story ‘Almost Anything’ and we thought about what we could ask the character and what we might say to them. We came up with some really motivating statements that we could all remember for when we feel things are tough.
Travelling Zoo KS1
We were very lucky to have the travelling zoo into school to meet the children who had moved up to their new class as part of their new topic on Fur, Skin and Feathers. The smiles on the children’s faces was lovely to see and also the fear on some of the staffs faces.
Outdoor measuring
Today we took our learning outside and drew lines to measure with a ruler. We discussed the unit of measure that we use to measure length and used centimetres to measure the length of different lines.

Visit to Sheffield
We took Paddington to a visit to Sheffield. We had a fantastic time in the Cathedral before walking into the city to the Winter Gardens and Millennium Galleries.
